Masterpieces in Google Earth

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Google just launched a new feature: explore the masterpieces from the Prado museum in Spain (like Velazquez' Las Meninas and a Durer self-portrait). You can view the works in Google Earth and Google Maps. It's so high res you can see the texture of the canvas and globs of paint.

It's stuff like this that makes me realize how much of an art dork I am.

Not exactly illustration but I thought it'd still be appreciated here.

SI-LA Winners!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Congratulations are in order for three of SCAD-Atlanta Illustration's finest; Kat Cimino, Mike Weaver, and Goñi Montes!
The Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Illustrators (SI-LA) hosts an annual student competition, and art schools from around the world submit their best work from the current academic year. The competition is very intense, and only the top entries are admitted into the exhibition. SCAD-Atlanta submitted 22 pieces, and four made it to the Big Show!
Kudos should also go out to Professor Julie Mueller-Brown whose students racked up most of the winnings!
Goñi Montes entered his two pieces under the Professional category, and BOTH made it in at that lofty level! An extra heaping of congratulations to Goñi!
Here are the winning works:

T-SHIRT COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Sunday, January 4, 2009

A few months back, we announced a departmental t-shirt competition. Students were allowed to submit as many entries as they'd like with the one rule: the illustration must contain the words "Scad Atlanta Illustration." The entries were judged by the illustration faculty and the folks at RTIbrands, who have generously donated 50 printed shirts.

AND THE WINNER IS...

HEATHER ELDER'S amazing bird/skeletons/vines design!!
